The Shimmer of Summer's Heat

In the heart of summer, in the heat of summer, everything seems to shimmer a bit. That's how it felt when I went to paint at one of my favorite spots near home, Cherryvale Open Space. The irrigated grass fields were thick and tall, sparkling with yellow birdsfoot trefoil flowers. In the distance, the mesa hummed with tans and browns -- clearly, Mother Nature hasn't been irrigating much this year. And over it all, the foothills rise, beckoning with the coolness of the mountain air.

This watercolor is painted on archival watercolor paper mounted on a wooden board, then wax varnished. It is intended to be displayed without glass glazing. Easy to frame, easy to look at!
