About Laura Steadman

Stepping into wild landscapes has a way of recalibrating everything: your breath, your attention, your sense of scale, and your sense of wonder. Being outdoors brings me joy. My paintings capture these feelings and brings them into your space, offering a daily moment of clarity, connection, and hopefully a smile.

Painting is my way of sharing the joy, peace, and love I find outdoors. As a Colorado-based naturalist, birder, camper, and plein-air painter, I craft my work from firsthand experiences—hours in shifting light, changing weather, and the rhythms of living landscapes. My childhood on the Carolina coast instilled an early reverence for the natural world; time with the National Park Service at Lake Mead revealed the subtleties of desert light; work on the Gulf Coast during the Deepwater Horizon cleanup strengthened my commitment to honoring and protecting these places.

Across every environment, I return to a single truth: nature rewards those who look closely. My art invites you to join me in that observation and presence, into a world where attention becomes appreciation, and appreciation becomes something lasting.

I'm also an active volunteer for nature: I lead birdwatching field trips for Denver Field Ornithologists (DFO) and Colorado Field Ornithologists (CFO), serve on the Field Trip Committees for both groups, conduct an annual Breeding Bird Survey for the USGS, and am an iNaturalist Ambassador. These experiences take me to amazing places that inspire my art.
